Periodontal disease (often called periodontitis) is the most common cause of early tooth loss. The disease leads to malnutrition of the cells of periodontal tissues, inflammation of the ligamentous apparatus ensuring the maintenance of the tooth in the alveoli, as well as the resorption of bone tissue. Unfortunately, inflammation of periodontal tissues occurs not only in seniors, as a result of natural aging of the body, but also in younger people, being caused by inadequate hygiene.
In advanced stages, the treatment of periodontitis, even with the use of the latest methods of treatment, is ineffective, and sometimes the only way to stop the inflammatory process is to remove the affected mobile teeth, to prevent complications. The restoration of the lost teeth using traditional methods – dental bridges or removable prostheses – are not always indicated. Removable dentures do not transfer the masticatory pressure to the bone, but, on the contrary, support bone resorption by the constant pressure exerted on the dental arch. Prostheses are fixed to adjacent teeth and, due to the developing atrophy, they lose fixation over time and injure soft tissues, when the patient chews.
Treatment from dental implant surgeon Park Ridge area with dental implants is the most effective way to restore lost teeth in periodontitis conditions, but only if the disease is stopped. The patient gets rid of chronic periodontitis, the periodontal ligaments are restored, and the soft tissues are strengthened, reshaped and, with good hygiene, serve as a natural barrier against the penetration of infection into the bone.
