What Types of Oral Surgery Require Heavy Sedation?

dental procedures sedation required implants

Sedation dentistry refers to administering substances or medications to make patients feel more relaxed during dental procedures like a Park Ridge dental implant. Sedatives can be inoculated intravenously, orally or through a respiratory mask (inhalation).

Intravenous sedation is the deepest sedation method and consists of injecting a sedative into a vein, using a small plastic tube (also called a cannula) that is usually placed in a vein located in the arm or hand.

Sedation specialists are trained to control the correct dose of sedative and any side effects. The anesthetist will be with you during the entire dental procedure and will monitor your breathing and oxygen levels.

There are many dental treatments that may require intravenous sedation, along with the administration of a local anesthetic. These include wisdom teeth extractions, inserting dental implants or complex tooth decay cleaning treatments. In addition, IV sedation can be also used when there is limited time for performing certain dental work, and the dentist must deal with several procedures during the same session, when the patient is scared due to past traumatic experiences or shows increased dental sensitivity, etc.

How will you feel at the end of the operation? Patients generally report that they do not remember much of what happened during the dental surgery and that they rested very well, even if they did not actually sleep.
