What To Expect After Dental Implants

What To Expect Dental Implants Process Procedures

The process of getting a Highland Park dental implants involves several minor surgical interventions performed over the course of several months.

The first intervention is the installation of the metal pole into the jawbone through a small incision – a procedure after which the jawbone starts to grow around the pole and to fuse with it. That growth and fusing process usually takes a couple of months – the next step can be performed only when the healing of the first incision is complete and the jawbone is sufficiently strong.

The next step is the installation of the abutment on top of the pole. The process usually requires another small incision and healing time is also needed. The last phase is the mounting of crown, the visible part of the implant either by cementing it to the abutment or by fastening it with a screw to make removal and repairs easier later.

The phases that require incisions should always be followed by a period of special care for the surgical area. The patient is likely to experience some pain, bleeding and swelling for a couple of days after the intervention, but the discomfort can usually be treated with painkillers and ice packs. Caring for the surgical area is usually easy and very similar to caring for the gums after a dental extraction and the duration of the healing process is also similar.
