Illinois is renowned for its oral surgeons as well as for the quality of the training available in the state, through the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Here are some of the problems treated by HICD a group of local oral surgeons:
-
Extractions – by far
the most common affections treated by oral surgeons are severely decayed and
infected teeth that need to be removed. Dental surgeons also routinely perform
more complicated extractions to remove wisdom teeth that have been affected by
various problems from impaction to decay and inflammation or infection;
-
Treating
temporomandibular joint problems – the temporomandibular joint is the
hinge-like joint that connects the jaw to the skull and that allows for the
movements of the jaw. When the joint is affected by impact or by stress, it can
develop disorders that are accompanies by severe pain or even by a jaw lock.
Oral surgeons routinely diagnose and treat these affections as well;
- Diagnosing and treatment for various oral growths – oral surgeons frequently diagnose and treat benign and malignant growths in the mouth. Fortunately, benign conditions, such as obstructed salivary glands that need to be removed, are more common than malignancies.
